Seabuckthorn

Seabuckthorn is the solo guise of English composer Andy Cartwright.
Working with string instruments tuned openly and played through a blend of picking and bowing techniques, Cartwright shapes sound through layered gestures and drifting textures. His music inhabits a quiet threshold between the experimental, the ambient, and the folk-rooted—unfolding slowly, attentive to space and resonance.
Raised in Oxfordshire, Cartwright studied sound engineering in Cornwall before moving through London, Paris, and Bristol, working behind the scenes as a broadcast wireman. He is now based in the French Southern Alps, where landscape and isolation inform his ongoing work.
For several years, Cartwright has toured internationally, performing at festivals and events across Europe. His compositions have found life beyond the stage, appearing in film, documentaries, contemporary dance, and digital spaces, as well as original scores for cinema.
